Amina Samee

Bio

Amina holds an MSc in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy from University College Cork, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Integrative Clinical Psychotherapy from Turning Point Institute, Dublin and a Higher Diploma in Psychotherapy Studies from University College Dublin. Her Master’s Dissertation involved understanding Psychotherapists’ Experience of Countertransference when Working with Older Adults.

Amina is a fully qualified psychotherapist and an accredited member of IAHIP, the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. She adheres to and fully abides by IAHIP’s standards and code of ethics. She attends regular supervision as part of her clinical practice. Amina attends workshops, seminars and trainings as part of her ongoing professional development.

Amina’s psychotherapeutic practice is based on a foundation of theories, principles, ideas and beliefs which are part of the Humanistic, Person Centred and Psychosynthesis approaches to the model of a human being. This foundation is imbued with Psychodynamic and Gestalt Therapy. Pivotal to and interwoven in her approach are Attachment Theory, Grief and Loss Theory, Body Psychotherapy, Psychosocial Stages, Buddhist philosophy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

This integrative framework facilitates working in a manner that is customised to cater to her clients’ individual needs. Her aim as a therapist is to enable her clients to achieve a greater degree of independence and integration by demonstrating congruence, empathy, unconditional positive regard, presence and non-judgement. Amina believes that the therapeutic relationship is paramount and that it plays a vital role in the process of building trust and healing.

Amina also views body psychotherapy as an integral part of the therapeutic process. When suitable, she enables clients to focus on the interactions between the body and the mind, which work in unison. People experience the world through their thoughts and emotions but also simultaneously through their bodies. The ‘body-mind’ connection represents the embodied integration of thoughts, feelings, physical bodily experiences and sensations. People develop systems of bodily ‘armor’ or muscle tension/rigidity, in order to protect themselves from emotional and physical pain. Energy stored in and released from the body plays an important role in how people carry themselves, experience and heal from pain, and interact with the world. Amina believes that memories can be stored in the body and that some memories cannot be processed through talk therapy alone. Traumatic memories and problematic tension can often be released through body work. Engaging in body psychotherapy enables Amina to work with her clients at a deeper unconscious level.

Amina is passionate about the power of communication, vulnerability, connection, courage and being seen and heard. She maintains an inclusive and diverse clinical practice.

Amina’s fee is €60 per session.
