Losing someone you love or care about can be an extremely painful event. Experiencing several, constantly changing and intertwining emotions is extremely common. Sometimes, it can feel like the sadness you’re going through will never let up.
These reactions are entirely normal and are expected in response to a significant loss. While there are no guidelines when it comes to how you grieve, there are healthy ways you can deal with it.
What Are the Symptoms of Bereavement
Some people think that bereavement is just the feeling of sadness. However, it can be far more intense than that. You may experience the following symptoms if you’re dealing with bereavement:
- Trouble sleeping
- Loss of appetite
- Increased susceptibility to illness
- Suicidal ideation
Grieving is simply a part of life when you’ve lost someone. However, there are good ways to cope with the pain. Here are some ways to deal with the grieving process:
- Support yourself emotionally.
- Take care of yourself physically.
- Acknowledge your pain.
- Allowing your grief process.
- Understand grief.
- Seek support from a counsellor/therapist.
- Recognize the difference between grief and depression.
