Bio

Emer Ward. M.A. Counselling and Psychotherapy, Dip Integrative Supervision

Emer has 18 years experience working in both private and public settings.   Her main body of work has been in community based projects and residential treatment settings supporting and facilitating people in exploring their relationship with alcohol and drug use, distorted eating patterns and compulsive behaviours.   Humanistic person-centered approaches place huge emphasis and value on the building of relationship particularly engendering trust and creating safety. This is very relevant to her work with people who sit in front of her as they can encounter feelings of shame and powerlessness around substance use, intergenerational trauma and abuse and a myriad of other elements of distress that make up the human psyche.

Emer is a fully qualified accredited psychotherapist with the Addiction Counsellors of Ireland.  She holds a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy through Irish College of Humanities and Applied Sciences.(ICHAS).  Emer qualified as a Clinical Supervisor in June 2018 supervising both group and individual counsellors working in the field of Addiction. She also provides Supervision and therapy to students attending undergraduate degree programmes in Addiction Counselling.

As an integrative psychotherapist she has all through her practice in both private and community based settings worked with an array of psycho educational resources offering information and understanding of the role of good nutrition, movement and simple relaxation techniques.

Emer believes in the healing power of a therapeutic relationship and the possibilities that can exist for a person who enters into the therapy space.   Her main area of expertise after substance use is the relationship with the self and others. Loss and grief issues feature in her work also.
